How we write and check our advice

Why we publish advice

CarFixNearMe helps drivers find a local garage. Most people arrive with a question first: what will the MOT cost, can I drive without one, is this quote fair. We answer those questions in plain English so you can talk to a garage with confidence.

Where the facts come from

We rely on official sources: GOV.UK and DVSA for the MOT and the law, Citizens Advice for consumer rights, and The Motor Ombudsman for servicing and complaints. Every article lists the pages it relies on, and every figure (a fee, a fine, a time limit) is traced to one of them.

How we check it

  • We read the source page on the day we write, and write the advice in our own words.
  • Each money amount sits on a checked list in our code. An article cannot state a figure that is not on it.
  • Every article shows when its text last changed and when its facts were last checked.

How often we review

Articles that state a fee or a penalty are checked at least every six months, the rest at least every year. If a review date passes, the page says so at the top rather than pretending it is current.

What we do not do

  • We do not give legal or financial advice. The advice is general information for drivers in Great Britain.
  • We do not quote prices for garage work. Prices depend on the car, the job and the garage: ask for a written quote.
  • Our advice is written independently of the garage listings. Whether a garage is listed on CarFixNearMe does not change what an article says.

Tell us about a mistake

If something looks wrong or out of date, email hello@carfixnearme.com with the page and, if you can, the official source. We will check it and correct the page.
